Welcome to Fringe!

Welcome to Fringethe first online magazine dedicated to the cowgirl in all of us. Our goal is to deliver the untold stories, ideas, dreams and inspirations from the western women who define the word “cowgirl”. We strive to bring the cowgirl spirit alive within these pages and revive the self-motivation and drive that resides in all of you. Watch the videos, read the bios, enjoy the recipes and fashion ideas from real cowgirls living all over the country. We hope you enjoy the ride but most of all we hope you take the reins of your life and go be a cowgirl!  About Fringe...

John Lopez is a self taught sculptor. He grew up not too far from my neck of the woods in Western South Dakota. I wanted to share his amazing talent with you.  His Western and rodeo theme bronzes have been well received by the public and have sold all over the country from California to New York. www.lopez-ranch.com

Enjoy!

Kristine Byars

John Lopez

Art should be fun, and Kristine Byars achieves that with her bright and lively paintings. I absolutely love her creative spin on Western life. On top of that, she’s a darn nice lady!

Jean Laughton is a self-trained photographer with a passion for the West. She began taking photographs in her 30’s while living in New York City. She first ventured cross country in a 1967 Impala that she purchased for $500. In search of glimpses of disappearing Americana and images evoking the past, she created her first series “GO WEST”. She is currently working on “MY RANCHING LIFE”. To read more about Jean’s photography and her life as a cowgirl, click here.

“My collage work is heavily influenced by life’s objects - signs, buildings, music, advertisements and nostalgia. Sometimes my art begins on the side of the road where I’ve found an interesting object…. When I’m not working on collages, I paint. My acrylic paintings on canvas and wood are spontaneous commentaries of Pop Culture, i.e., coffee cups, television, hearts, and the spaces we live in. They are created with a fun & whimsical feel because I tend to view life in that way.”   - Dave

Teal Blakehttp://tealblake.com/

Teal grew up in Montana surrounded by ranching country, and now lives outside Weatherford, TX. Teal has always liked to show what makes the traditional West; cowboys not always clean shaven, shirts not always creased, and their horses manes not always long. Broncs tend to get the most attention, as shown in Teal’s painting of Tom Butler in this year’s Tom Butler Memorial Bronc Riding Poster at left.

Dave Newmanhttp://davenewmanstudio.com/

Kristen was raised in Southern California as far from “cowgirl” as you could take a girl. Instead of growing up on a horse, Kristen road the waves. A true surfer chic! When she married rodeo announcer Bob Tallman she began her new life as a rancher. They moved to a ranch in Oregon where she spent her first winter calving out a couple hundred head of cows. At one point she had a house full of calves, but didn’t lose a calf that winter. Kristen remembers, “there was no way I was going to let a calf die on my watch!”  Most girls would run from a new challenge like that, but she was in love with the lifestyle from the get-go. Years of travel, ranching and her creative talent for putting things together, have given Kristen a unique flair for Western Interior Design. She was gracious enough to share her decorating talents in a “Fringe Tips” series.
